A night of queer black metal intensity and crushing emotional release unfolds in a powerful double bill that opens with hardcore punk resistance.
Moving fluidly between drums, guitar, and voice, Ragana's sound is all about blurred lines. Emerging from the DIY punk underground of Olympia and now rooted between there and Oakland, the queer duo's wide spectrum of influences meld into a singular vision of experimental black metal, redolent of the petrichor and damp green moss of the Pacific Northwest. Delicate vocal harmony dissolves into searing cries, a constant push and pull between fragility and force: heavy yet luminous, grounded in emotion and carried by a sense of haunted space.
Dis Fig’s performances are full-bodied transmissions. Her live shows erase the distance between artist and audience, drawing listeners into a shared emotional terrain that extends beyond language. Her voice is an immediate snare to the senses, her presence immense. Honed across years spent in experimental scenes where boundaries were meant to be pushed, her sound spits on easy classification. It’s Rapture and Rupture, brvtal beauty flensed and stretched in uncannily melodic configurations. Continuously expanding the scope of her sound and performance, her collaborations with bass don The Bug, radical multi-disciplinary artist Tianzhuo Chen, and sonic freight trains The Body are essential listening for weird ears.
Opening the evening, Spixe brings a fierce and urgent energy rooted in Berlin’s queer punk landscape, drawing from hardcore and crust. Fronted by FLINTA voices and formed from members of Shimmer, Wet Dream War Machine, and Double Life, they channel the tensions and realities faced by marginalized communities into cutting confrontation you can mosh to, setting the tone for a night of catharsis and collective release.
